Spas, Religion, or Both?
A South Australian newspaper has reported that since the late 1980s more day spas, tattoo parlors and masseuses have been listed in the Yellow Pages. On the flip side of the coin, there are less church organizations, corner delis and butchers. Now one can see this as a move towards trying to enhance one’s beauty, or not depending on your stance on tattoos, and one can also view this as snub to submarine sandwiches, the meat-man and God (which is also probably the only time you will see those three words mentioned in sequential order). What does this mean, exactly? The article concerning the issue points out that it has been a solid 20 years since George Michael’s song “Faith” hit the charts and let’s be honest Limp Bizkit’s painful rendition of it 11 years ago was not exactly a chart-topper. Plus, I’m not sure it was on the A-List for Christian music.
The article also says that there might be too much stress present in today’s society, which leads people to seek out sanctuaries like day spas. Apparently people would rather indulge than repent. But also, and let’s be honest, the wooden pews are not exactly kind on your back and what’s with all of the kneeling? I’m not saying church-going should be abandoned…but really what about some nice floor mats? Like the ones used for yoga, and then my friends you would killing two birds with one stone. Or rather you can practice your Boat Pose or Navasana whilst practicing your favorite religion. That my friends is a true exercise in physical, emotional and spiritual healing!
